My fourth kombi (the last was 22 years ago) is a 1976 camper finished in grey primer which I just bought off e-bay sight unseen and without a motor. Now painted the original colour (Riverina Orange) and fitted with a 1600 dual port. Still work in progress.

After 20+ years without a VW I bought a 72 Super Beetle. 26 months later a reasonable German Looker with 2110cc engine. This was practice for what I really wanted .. a Kombi. 2005 I bought a fairly rusty 71 lowlight and after many a panel replacement and a Subaru WRX engine transplant and 30 months it is done. Just finished converting it to an Automatic.

Member Since June 2008

Bubba is a 1975 Microbus 8 Seater, originally had a 1600cc im told, now runs on a stock (for now) 2ltr Dual carb set up with a Petronix Ignition and a Vintage Speed Exhaust. have refreshed the interior a bit as there wasn't any when I got him, added a neat sound system, a Dual Battery setup and a few other gadgets. Upgraded to some 16" Audi wheels, Have powder coated the bumpers, Plans are to eventually give the paint job a tidy up. Happy for now just to drive him for a bit.......further down the track I'd like to upgrade the engine maybe adding a few hot up options for a little more poke and of course drop the ride height a bit.

Hi all, I have a late 71 cross over Kombi with a campmobile fit out. Love the beast! Try to get away in it at every chance I can and really enjoy the garage hobby of maintaining improving and repairing at the moment. A kombi lifestyle is a sweet lifestyle to have indeed!

I started with a Bedford van in 1977 for two years then in 1989 I got myself a 1973 kombi the thing was so unreliable that i traded it in for my first T3 in 1994 which I still own and drive. I paid $14000 for it 19 years ago so its a very cheap car to own and next to no maintenance. I recently swapped a motor bike for my new old T3 p/v the white one and it goes like a bat out of hell how ever it requires much tlc and many parts and for those who might be interested it has been fitted with a GXR motorcycle exhaust pulls its weight up hills without backing down and 100k to !!!! in nothing flat just can't believe my luck of scoring this one. I also remember how when the T3's came out the owners of the bay window Kombi's usual would not wave to us took quite a while for the T3 to be accepted as a Kombi. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Impact-Automotive/156725337689832

Bought the "horse" as named by my wife as a result of hiring a bus and camping at beaches down the coast from Sydney for our wedding anniversary. Is a rolling resto with no show plans just run and ride well and have some fun as we go. Has been great so far.

Betty Blue

Member Since July 2011

Betty is a Swagman kombi. Bought in 2003 in Darwin by my partner and driven to Sydney. Betty could be found most weekends somewhere along the beaches of NSW as my windsurf van. Upon moving to London in 2007 we drove Betty to Perth and shipped her from Fremantle to Southampton. Now living with us in London we've just given her some long overdue TLC with a rebuild of the original 2.0L T4 engine and bodywork (minus the 1 tonne roo bar) and new interior based on the old weetbix one that fell apart.

Member Since March 2012

Axl is a diamond in the rough. He is pretty straight and rust free, good 2L motor etc, but the paint and the oil leaks need to be addressed. I bought him to go fishing up at Jindabyne and down the coast, there's a RnR bed in the back and with no windows, he is perfect for just chucking stuff in and off we go.

We bought Obi, our first VW, in March 2011. She's a '73 Transporter. She's in a bad way but we are slowly bringing her back to life and have absolutely no regrets in buying her. (Right price & locally sold here in the Illawarra) I've bought new panels where I can get them and made those I can't. We can't wait to get her on the road and drive off and enjoy the experience. She seems such a logical choice for a vehicle I don't know why it never occured to me to get one earlier in life.

I Bought Wilber 24th June 2012. Drove him from Dubbo, so after 5 hours of no radio and no heater we got to know each other rather well. He is a 73 microbus, straight as an arrow, adding a few finishing touches to him as he us not the best looking bloke on the block. But his charming featues are that as Iplay my music his side mirrors wabble in time to the beat, cant help but laugh when ACDC is playing. WE are a very happy couple.

Neshi

Member Since November 2009

Neshi is my first Kombi and I got him for an absolute Bargain. I am looking for a rear luggage rack as he doesn't have one???? He is a 1973 Westfalia. I think he was imported privately as the windscreen wipers are backwards and the chassis plate is in German. He is now registered and has so many things replaced. I don't see many of these around.

based in Bendigo, VIC My first car was a 67 Type 3 Variant, found a bay Kombi in reasonable condition, so time to decide what to do with it, thinking stock external white over yellow with a custom camper interior. Time will tell. :)
