My name is Peter, just bought a 1977 Bay Kombi - for my daughter actually - I am amazed at the good and original condition this Kombi is. Has some rust - nut much - and a few minor things needs replacing and it seems the engin needs an overhaul because it has an oil leak but seems minor. Only time will tell...

Both the wife and i are Kombi brats, BigRed was passed down to me when my father passed away early 2007, this was dads (Barry's) second Kombi which was purchased NEW and is still loved today 35yrs later. Many school holiday trips with many family friends have been enjoyed through my years.
Its taken a little on 2yrs to get him back on the road and every trip another adventure in lifes book. LOVE IT...!
"air cooled rules" R.I.P. TBM 1935 to 2007
Now BigRed got his name because of CB radio during the mid 70's, as remote control model flyers we all had CB's in our cars and some at home. A good close friend (big brother like) had a Toyota Corolla KE68 Stationwagon, it was red also and too gained the name of "LittleRed". And as a brat on the radio i gainded the callsign "HappyWhisltler"......the story goes on. Now semi retired Communications Technician.....

Bluey is a 1978 Transporter, 2Litre, 7 seater, twin exhaust, tinted windows and mags.
We just love it. We've already gone for heaps of trips including Old Bar (NSW) in Oct 08, Run to the Sun 09 (QLD), VW Spectacular at Valla (NSW) in 2010, as well as several VW Nats.
I installed a DVD player for the kids for the longer trips. Best investment I could have ever made. Was my daily drive but the wife likes it too so we take turns.

I bought this Kombi from my Dad for $1000, and she was a sad sight. She'd had a fire in the engine bay, and her rear end had been replaced .. but dodgey brothers fashion, and she had more cancer than metal. The final straw was me putting the heel of my shoe through the floor on the way to a funeral - not a good look when you pull up at the cemetary and have to get out bare foot and try to wrench your shoe out of the hole in the floor :) She has now had all the rust cut out, and new metal welded in, been sanded back and painted, and just got 4 new tyres and some sheepskin seat covers (the seats are a bit sad, but the seat covers will tide me over). Now I'm on to the inside, and I'm looking forward to the experience :) Eva is my car, and she will be for life :)

When Amanda & I returned home in 2000 from 3 years of living out of a backpack we had decided we were over sleeping in a tent and were going to buy a camper. We wanted a kombi and looked at many but very nearly bought a hiace along the way before finding our fabulous yellow '74 bay poptop camper. We have never looked back and very quickly fell in love with kombis and she has never let us down even when neglected. We have never named her - has always just been "The Kombi" but that doesn't mean we don't love her lots and lots. The Kombi is currently being restored and we so miss her and want her back NOW!! When she comes home she will be white over green.
